1. Re: Palau/Olbia area vs Cagliari. 8 years ago. Save. For the most cultural activities, Cagliari, but if hiring a car you would need to be careful about getting a hotel with parking facilities. For beaches you would be driving out to Poetto (beware of the ZTL) and possibly further afield (Villasimius..) or you can combine culture and beaches.
